It’s time to deck the halls (and doors) with festive holiday décor!
Instead of buying a holiday wreath from the store, you can follow our step-by-step instructions to create something simple and beautiful.
What You’ll Need
Before you can make a minimal holiday wreath, you’ll need to make sure you have a few things first:
- Embroidery hoop
- Greenery (we bought ours from the grocery store)
- Scissors
- Shears
- Floral tape
- Floral wire
- Ribbon
Step 1: Bind the Greenery
First, you’ll want to create two bunches of greenery and bind them together with the floral tape. If you haven’t worked with it before, floral tape is a stretchy green tape that sticks to itself when it’s stretched.
To figure out how you want the greenery arranged, you can lay it on the embroidery hoop before you bind the greens together to see how you’d like them to be arranged.
You may need to trim the ends of the greenery so it lays better on your hoop.
Step 2: Attach the Greenery to the Hoop
Next, take your bound greenery and attach it to the hoop by holding the greenery in the position you want it and wrapping floral wire around the ends of the greenery and the hoop.
Repeat this with your second bunch of greenery on the other side of the hoop.
In our example, we used greenery only at the bottom of the hoop, but you can place it anywhere you’d like and create more of an asymmetrical design.
If any of the greenery isn’t sitting exactly where you want it to sit, you can wrap the wire around the stem of that piece of greenery and where you want it to sit on the hoop. This can help both sides look more symmetrical.
Step 3: Make a Bow
Finally, you’re going to cut a long piece of ribbon.
Take your long piece of ribbon and tie it where the two ends of greenery meet. The ribbon will hide the ends of your greenery and add another festive element to your wreath.
Additional Customizations
If you want to make your holiday wreath unique, you can add other elements like florals, dried fruits, ornaments or bells.
The florals and dried fruits can be wired on just like the greenery.
To add ornaments or bells, you could wire them onto the hoop, but you could also loop the ribbon through the loop on the item and have them hang near where the bow is placed.
