For the sixth consecutive year, Quicken Loans sponsored Pat’s Run, a 4.2 mile run commemorating the life and legacy of Patrick Tillman.
As a former Arizona State University player drafted by the Arizona Cardinals, Tillman put his potential all-star NFL career on hold to serve his country in the wake of the 9/11 attacks. He served on the second battalion of the 75th Ranger Regiments in Fort Lewis, Washington, as well as serving tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
On April 22, 2004, Pat’s unit was ambushed, leading to his untimely death.
After Pat’s death, his family and friends founded the Pat Tillman Foundation to support veterans and spouses through educational scholarships, tools and a support network. Since its conception, the foundation has grown to 525 Tillman scholars and $15 million in academic scholarship and support.
The run is a fundraising event for the Tillman Foundation, with proceeds of the race directly supporting the Tillman Scholar Program.
The run is located at The Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona, which is the home stadium for Pat’s alma mater. Over 30,000 participants, volunteers and spectators gather together to honor Tillman’s legacy and raise funds for the foundation of his namesake.
Starting on the streets of Tempe, the race winds through the city, ending at the 42-yard line of Frank Kush Field inside Sun Devil Stadium in remembrance of Pat, who proudly wore No. 42 on his football jersey.
This year, the Tillman Foundation celebrates the 14th annual Pat’s Run. To date, it’s the second largest military race in America.
As part of our commitment to veteran causes, Quicken Loans sent over 350 team members to participate in the 2018 Pat’s Run, running alongside former military service members. After the race, the team members were treated with breakfast and time to reflect on the meaning behind the race.
