5 Part-Time Job Ideas for Busy Moms

Life as a mom is definitely busy (there’s really no other word to describe it!). You’re often the one who handles homework help and driving to activities, not to mention taking care of the required daily things, like teeth brushing! Because of that, it can be incredibly hard to find part-time work that is enjoyable, valuable and worth the time away from your kids.

That’s why I’ve included five ideas below of part-time jobs I think many moms would enjoy. Each one of these jobs has flexible hours, and you can work on building your skills and expertise at your own pace on your own time.

Bookkeeping

For those who are self-employed, it can be hard keeping the books up to date. So, if you’re organized, enjoy helping others and are good with numbers, managing the books for business owners and entrepreneurs can be a great part-time job. When you’re a bookkeeper, your duties will vary depending on the business. For example, some businesses might ask you to help process payroll. Others will ask you to send invoices or balance their accounts at the end of each month.

You do not need a college degree to become a bookkeeper. You do need to be comfortable with numbers and have great attention to detail.

Additionally, bookkeeping is something you can do remotely or in a few hours on site at a business. Thus, this should be a great way to make extra income without having to commit to a set work schedule.

Teaching English Online

Teaching English online to students abroad has become more and more popular over the past few years. One of the most well-known companies, VIPKid, enables people with college degrees to log online and teach English lessons to children in China.

Bloomberg news recently reported that VIPKid had raised $120 million in venture capital funding and signed up 50,000 kids to learn English – a number that is still growing.

VIPKid provides you with the lessons ahead of time, and experienced teachers can make $12 – $22 per hour.

Because you’re teaching people in different time zones, you can complete much of this work early in the morning or late at night, depending on your preference. Many moms prefer to teach students abroad early in the morning before their kids wake up or late at night after their kids go to bed.

Social Media Marketing

These days, every business needs a strong social media presence to survive. Managing multiple social media accounts requires organization and multitasking, something many moms can do very well.

If you want to pursue social media marketing, it’s important to have a willingness to learn about it. Social media is constantly changing, so it’s best to prepare and do your research before jumping in.

There are many different courses online to help with social media management, as well as many free resources. There are even social media management tools online to help you manage multiple social media accounts at once.

Like freelance writing, managing social media accounts might take time before you build a solid base of clients. However, once you do, this is a part-time job that you can do on your own time.

Tutoring

If you enjoy working with students, tutoring is an extremely lucrative part-time job that many moms can do while their children are in ballet class or at an after-school club meeting.

Some tutors can get paid $20 – $60 per hour, depending on the subject. In order to start this as a part-time job, create inexpensive business cards online and distribute them to local schools in your area.

You can also email principals at schools to let them know about the services you’re offering. That way, when a student is struggling in your area of expertise, the faculty at those schools can think of you as a potential person to hire.

Child Care

If you’re a stay-at-home mom, you’re already taking care of your kids, making them breakfast, lunch and dinner and keeping them busy throughout the day. So, why not add one more child to the mix?

Providing child care to an additional child not only gives you a great source of income, but it also helps out another parent who knows their child is safe and loved by someone else.

This job is not for everyone. (Personally, I can only handle my own two kids!) However, some moms would do an amazing job at this!

Ultimately, if you want to earn extra income with a part-time job, don’t brush off the idea because you’re already a busy mom. As evidenced above, there are many types of part-time jobs you can do that pay well. You just have to decide which one is the best match for your abilities and interests and take the time to put your plan into action.
